My hotel is about 3.5 kms from the town of Mahebourg which is the largest town on the east coast, but not very big at all. There are two attractions here, the Biscuit Factory and the Naval Museum. The Biscuit Factory makes everything by hand using gluten free cassava flour which they grow on the property. The ovens are a long flat strip of stone with the flame fed by palm leaves or sugar cane mulch. A tour of the factory has you understanding why they don't export. No stainless steel or hygiene regulations here. After a tasting at the end of the tour there is also another reason they don't export. They taste like crap!
